Prima Ballerina

Halloween is definitely my favorite time of the year. My husband and I look forward to it all year. Sadly though this year didn't have quite as much magic as past years due to my hubby being deployed :(. Once again to distract myself from it all I threw myself into making costumes. My girl has been into dancing lately so I knew the perfect costume.
A ballerina...

As always I was on a super tight budget and here are the deets:

leotard & tights-- $8.50(walmart)
ribbon-- $1(dollar store)
ballet slippers-- $1(dollar store)
tulle --$4.99(hobby lobby)
bag of white feathers-- $1.49(hobby lobby)
elastic-- free on hand
elastic headband-- free on hand
piece of felt-- free on hand
------------
total: around $18

Not too shabby with all the character it has.
She loves it so much she couldn't stop twirling!

The tutu had minimal sewing..just the ends of the elastic to make the skirt. I used the knot technique for the tulle. I just hand sewed the ribbon onto the slippers which took about 10 minutes.

For the "swan" headpiece I cut two pieces of oblong shaped felt and glued the feathers in place to my liking then hand stitched it to the elastic headband. Kind of how I did it here.

but...there's one little stinker I couldn't forget:)

She tried to twirl and jump like sister too!

This was so much fun and easyyyyy!
They are my everything.

Happy Halloween.

  3. So cute!! I love these versus buying costumes...the store ones are so cheaply made and often cost more than DIY like this. :) So pretty.
